2019 Cielo d’Ulisse, Brunello di Montalcino, Podere Le Ripi
Tasting note
Ruby with garnet tones, the nose has classic sangiovese cherry notes, brushwood, spices and floral hints. Broad yet gentle on the palate with very fine tannins.
Our thoughts
Fragrant and aromatic, Cielo d'Ulisse hails from Podere Le Ripi's isolated vineyard in the far west of Montalcino, surrounded by wild forests that give this unique site a cool microclimate.

Vinous
Dark and intense, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Cielo d’Ulisse entices with a burst of exotic spice, zests of tangerine, cedar shavings and rum-soaked cherries. This is cool-toned and racy in style, with crisp wild berry fruits enhanced by vibrant acidity. Violet inner florals arch across the palate. This maintains momentum even as crunchy tannins descend upon the senses, leaving a stain of tart cranberry and orange slowly fading. I expect that three to five years of cellaring will reveal a Brunello of boundless energy. The Cielo d’Ulisse is a single vineyard wine that hails from vineyards in the extreme southwest of Montalcino.

Vinous
Wickedly fresh, the 2019 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Lupi e Sirene bursts from the glass with shavings of blood orange, balsamic spice and minty herbs before settling on rum-soaked cherries. It's soothingly round and pliant with masses of ripe strawberry and blueberry notes, all guided by a core of brilliant acidity. Crunchy mineral tones emerge through the finish as the 2019 ends with a pleasantly tart sensation, leaving edgy tannins to resonate without detracting from its energetic persona.
