Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2018 Raza is a blend of 50% Arinto, 35% Azal and 15% Trajadura (the same percentage every year, with a focus on high-acid grapes), coming in with some fizz, 11.5% alcohol, 6.2 grams of acidity and 8.7 grams of residual sugar. This is the traditional and somewhat stereotypical style of Vinho Verde, but it’s typically well done here. Tasted about ten weeks after bottling, it still seemed as if the grapes had just been crushed. This was the epitome of green wine, up to and including a bit of just-sliced green apple on the finish. It finishes surprisingly dry in perception, relatively speaking, given the 8.7 grams of sugar. The fizz seems to blow off fairly quickly. Clean and fresh, it’s a nice example of a typical style. In this style and at this level, these aren’t so vintage-sensitive, but some years have perhaps had a bit more crispness, granting that they are not here side by side. It still does well. Drink it as young as possible, preferably by this summer, and nicely chilled. There were 18,000 cases produced.
