2017 Latricieres-Chambertin, Grand Cru, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet (6 x Bottle)

France Burgundy Cote de Nuits

The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru is very stubborn and closed on the nose, then opens wonderfully to offer red cherries, wild strawberry and pomegranate scents, but frustratingly, it ebbs away with further aeration. Very mercurial. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy red fruit and fine depth and grip, delivering admirable precision on the finish. It will need a few years to settle down, but it should come good in the end. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Vinous

The 2017 Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru, matures in around 50% new oak, has a well-defined bouquet with scents of Earl Grey infusing the dark berry fruit (darker than Rossignol-Trapet’s Premier Crus for example.) The palate is medium-bodied with gentle grip on the entry, slightly tertiary in style with subtle torrefaction notes, but well balanced with impressive substance on the finish, a tingle of white pepper on the aftertaste. Like many of the domaine’s 2017s, this just feels very natural and refined. Excellent.
