2017 Gevrey-Chambertin, 1er Cru Clos Prieur, Domaine Rossignol-Trapet (Bottle)

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru has an open, leafy bouquet, a little stemmy but charming, with wilted rose petal scents. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp tannins, and fresh though a bit rustic. Grippy toward the finish, displaying an attractive spiciness. Rough around the edges, relatively evolved, but still pleasing. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting.

Vinous

The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Prieur 1er Cru offers rather showy red fruit with veins of blueberry, quite precocious and maybe not as complex as say, the domaine’s Corbeaux by direct comparison. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin, smooth in texture although, I would like more delineation and a tad more persistency to develop on the finish during the remainder of its élevage. I will remain prudent with my score for now.
