2016 Mendel Unus, Malbec/Cabernet Sauvignon, Lujan de Cuyo, Mendoza (6 x Bottle)

Argentina Mendoza

Deep red with violet tints. The nose is dominated by fresh black cherry, plum and blackberry, with notes of cassis, chocolate and caramel. The palate is fleshy and meaty with fine harmonious tannins. Structured, but not stern, this is highly complex, with beautiful lifting acidity that makes it rich yet easily drunk.

Vinous

The 2016 Unus comes from an old vineyard that dates back to 1928 in Drummond, Luján de Cuyo. The vintage was one of the coldest and most rainy since 1998, and producers struggled to fit the year into their wine style. The 2016 is a good example from the year. It has a nose of red fruit with hints of herbs, such as thyme and oregano, mint and blackcurrant. The flow is refined, and the tannins are reactive. Juicy with herbal flavor. Delivers a lovely fruity finish.

Vinous

Bright medium ruby. Aromas of cassis, violet and licorice are accented by a hint of black pepper. Dense, vinous and light on its feet, offering terrific peppery/herbal lift to its penetrating black fruit and violet flavors. This very suave, vibrant blend shows a distinct Cabernet herbacity as well as strong chalky minerality, not to mention the energy of its long, cool growing season. The substantial dusty tannins call for at least a couple years of patience. (a blend of the best lots of the winery’s oldest vineyards in Mayor Drummond, Perdriel and Uco Valley)
