2016 La Peyse, Chignin-Bergeron AOC, Domaine Philippe et Sylvain Ravier

A rich nose of refined apricot fruit, flowers, gingerbread spice with hints of honey and almond paste. The palate carefully balances roundness and tension, with honey aromatics and minerality.

Jancis Robinson

Golden colour. Marmalade and honey. Herbs and quince. Stupendous. Unfurls like a roll of liquid silk; shimmering, luminous, Aztec gold. Rich, limpid layers of baked apricot, baklava, toasted hazelnuts, saffron, fenugreek, grapefruit, sliding sfumato, soft focus, from one to the other; spices folded and pressed into the texture. A liminal wine, that seems to stand in the doorway between magnificence and quiet shibui. Acidity intense yet somehow tenuous, a cello-and-bass thrum of gentle vibrato under my ribs. I’d pay twice the price for this wine.
