Vinous

The 2016 Feytit-Clinet comes across as very ripe and pushed, with less of the explosive energy of some past vintages. Or maybe the powerful tannins are simply buried by the sheer intensity of the fruit. Waves of fruit saturate the palate in a dramatic, distinctive Pomerol that shows the more virile side of the appellation. The 2016 is a terrific wine, but the question is whether it has one more gear left. I can’t wait to see how it develops. Tasted three times.

Vinous

The 2016 Feytit-Clinet is gorgeous. Graphite, sage, menthol, gravel, crushed rocks, new oak and iron give the 2016 its distinctive savory/feral profile. Powerful and yet also translucent, the 2016 conveys intensity, but with less overtness than has often been the case in recent vintages. Feytit-Clinet is usually a big, explosive wine. The 2016 lacks some of that intensity, but it is nevertheless very pretty and full of personality.

Vinous

The 2016 Feytit-Clinet has a classy bouquet (as usual), featuring blackberry, briar, crushed stone and hints of sea cave and displaying wonderful definition and focus. The palate is very well defined with a fine bead of acidity. More structured than usual, with flecks of dark chocolate, this Feytit-Clinet has great depth but will clearly require time to coalesce toward the edgy finish. Another impressive wine from Jeremy Chasseuil.
