2016 Chablis, 1er Cru, Mont de Milieu, Domaine Billaud-Simon (Bottle)

The 2016 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru has a clean and precise, quite austere bouquet that seems to have more intensity than its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with fresh acidity, just a subtle touch of reduction, impressive tension and ample weight and concentration on the finish. This is a very fine Mont de Milieu that should offer several years of drinking pleasure. Tasted blind at the BIVB Chablis tasting.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The 2016 Chablis 1er Cru Mont de Milieu is excellent, exhibiting a classic bouquet of lemon oil, pastry cream and white flowers. On the palate, it’s medium to full-bodied, concentrated and succulent, with a fleshy core of fruit balanced by bright acids, concluding with a stony finish. It’s already quite expressive, so this will be compelling on release.

91 Points / Drinking 2018 - 2026

By William Kelley / August 2018

Vinous

(one fût, the rest in cuve): Full medium yellow. Higher-pitched on the nose than the foregoing samples, offering scents of peach, pear, ginger and minerals. Then richer and more opulent than the Vaillons in the mouth, but conveying a light touch in spite of its volume thanks to its mineral and white pepper lift (the soil here is shallower). A bit less saline than the Fourchaume and Vaillons.
