Vinous
(15% alcohol; aged for 12 months in new Taransaud barrels): Bright ruby-red. Aromas of black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate, plus a touch of cedary oak. Shows more stuffing, texture and pliancy than Melipal’s 2016 Malbec and 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon (both of which I found too lean and green), with a touch of chocolatey ripeness to its dark berry and herb flavors. Still, this is a wine of modest depth. The tannins ultimately turn a bit herbal and dusty.
