2015 Inversus, IGT Toscana, Fattoria Casaloste

Deep purple coloured, the nose shows hints of raisins, with blackberry, liquorice and just a hint of tar. The palate is fairly full bodied, full of rich fruit and hints of Christmas spices and laden with rich, velvety tannins.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

The Casaloste 2015 Inversus is 90% Merlot with a small component of Sangiovese. The estate is located in Panzano in Chianti where wines are known for their distinct freshness and clarity of aromas. This is a mid-weight expression that boasts dark and rich color saturation. The wine offers robust aromas of black fruit, spice and sweet tobacco. You do recognize the Merlot when just considering the bouquet. However, the mouthfeel reflects the wine’s Sangiovese side with bright acidity and a snappy, crisp finish. Some 4,000 bottles were made.

Vinous

The 2015 Inversus, the estate’s Merlot/Sangiovese based blend, offers good depth and fine overall persistence, but less richness and complexity than the best wines in this range. Red cherry and plum fruit struggle to emerge from a wall of tannins in this austere red.

Vinous

The 2015 Inversus is an attractive Merlot/Sangiovese blend from Casaloste. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather and mint infuse this sumptuous, bold red with plenty of character. As good as the 2015 is, it does not quite have the distinctiveness of its stable mates. Even so, it is a tasty wine if taken on its own terms.
