Vinous

The 2012 Amarone della Valpolicella Mai Dire Mai is dark as night and seductive, presenting a display of ripe cherries, currants, sweet herbs, mocha and vanillin spice. It’s silky, enveloping all that it touches in tart red and black berries, as notes of baker’s chocolate and mint create a bitter yet lifted expression toward the close. There’s formidable structure here, with plenty of primary fruits to match, throughout the long and dramatic finale. The Mai dire Mai is a single-vineyard expression from Montevegro that spends 24 months in a combination of new 225- and 500-liter barrels.
