2006 L’Extravagant, Chateau Doisy-Daene, Barsac (6 x Half Bottle)

France Bordeaux Barsac

There is only a tiny amount of the light gold/green-colored 2001 Doisy-Daene l’Extravagant (primarily Sauvignon Blanc). As the name suggests, it is extravagantly rich as well as very full-bodied with extraordinary purity and intensity. The finish lasts for over a minute. There are loads of botrytis in addition to caramelized tropical fruits, zesty acidity, and striking clarity of expression. Anticipated maturity: now-2035.

Robert Parker Wine Advocate

Tasted at the Sauternes 2006 ten-year on horizontal in Bordeaux. The 2006 L’Extravagant Doisy Daene has a rich, opulent and honeyed bouquet that seems to not so much seduce the olfactory senses, but get down to business straight away. The palate is rounded and sensual with pure honey, blood orange, popcorn and touches of nougat towards the tender finish. Beautifully balanced, unctuous and somehow effortless, this is a magnificent Doisy Daene that certainly lives up to its name. Tasted April 2016.

Vinous

The 2006 L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne has a slightly muffled nose when compared to the 2007, beeswax and honeysuckle, orange blossom and saffron scents. The palate is beautifully balanced with fine acidity, exceptionally pure with a tensile and delineated finish that lingers longer in the mouth, a touch of egg whites on the aftertaste. Gorgeous.
