2006 Chambertin Clos de Beze, Grand Cru, Nicolas Potel (6 x Bottle)
Deep red-ruby. Fruit-dominated aromas of crushed raspberry and strawberry. Pure considering the extensive hail damage here (Potel says 40% of the berries were eliminated) but in a very tight style, with a distinctly cool, peppery quality apparent. Doesn't show the normal sweetness or aromatic expressiveness of a young Clos de Beze. Finishes long and aromatic, though.

Vinous
Bright medium red. Aromas of plum, cola and brown spices, lifted by dried flowers but also showing a slightly stewed quality. Suave, broad and quite dry, with palate-saturating earth and pepper tones. The slightly roasted character carries through in the mouth, which could use more lift. Finishes with drying tannins. This should have been better.
