Golden colour with amber tinits, the nose is full of poached apricot, orange zest and lemon. There are also hints of spice and honey on the palate along with dried fruits, mint and tobacco box. Unctuously rich with a creamy mouthfeel it also vivacious with classic bracing acidity.

The 2002 Tokaji Aszu 6-Puttonyos is a blend of 75% Furmint and 25% Zeta, the aszu added to the fermenting must and macerated for 48-60 hours. It has a dense, exotic, quite spicy bouquet with plenty of honeyed fruit, apricot jam and marmalade notes. The palate is medium-bodied with a seductive, viscous entry, well-judged acidity and a plush, honeyed finish infused with dried fig, kumquat and marmalade. It feels long in the mouth, with a hint of spice on the aftertaste. This is a marvelous Tokaji aging (slowly) with style. Drink now-2040+.

Tasted at the Disznoko tasting in London, the 2002 Tokaji Aszu 6 Puttonyos had an intense dried honey, lanolin and brown spice-scented bouquet that is very satisfying, later even a hint of Vervanne tea surfacing through the aromas. The palate is quite sweet on the entry (even for a 6 Puttonyos) with spice, gingerbread and lemon rind infusing the viscous texture. It is discretely moving into its secondary phase and should give another two decades of drinking pleasure without problem. This is a superb counterpart to the 5 Puttonyos this year. Tasted September 2016.

Vinous

Full deep orange. Rather evolved aromas of apricot, walnut and almond show more dried-berry character than botrytis tones. Very sweet and supple in the mouth, with slightly high-toned flavors of apricot, flowers, honey and vanillin oak. On the light, even lean side for 6 puttonyos, with a hint of edgy acidity giving the finish a pinched quality.
