In 1977 The Clash sang, “I’m up and down the Westway, in an’ out the lights, What a great traffic system – it’s so bright,” and who knows what they were on about. Punk’s long gone but The Westway stands proud in one of London’s leafier suburbs. A botched modernist construction, or one of London’s most loved dual carriageways? Local artist Daniel Corbett is one of many who are fascinated by the west London’s concrete superstructure. Along with the Ballardian Trellick Tower the Westway divides opinion like it geographically slices through this part of the city. Love it or paint it, it’s not going anywhere soon. You’d miss it if it was.
